Ag Progress Days

Elizabeth Voight 2018 Pennsylvania State Fair Queen

Ag Progress Days- Ag promotion at its best!  On August 14-16 I got to experience this first hand.  There were numerous companies and organizations educating the farm community as well as the general public about their products.  Choppers, tractors, livestock, feed bins, wood splitters, fencing supplies, seed corn, livestock waterers, banking needs, commodity groups and equipment demonstrations...you name it, it was there!  I had the privilege of working the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs booth.  While there, I interacted with all ages but spent most of my time making an agricultural craft with children!  A special thanks to the FFA State Officers for being so willing to be my first "customers" for my painted thumb print sheep craft!  I then took part in a tour of the grounds given to me by my dad, Del Voight, who has worked at this event for many years.  I had the chance to visit with the Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. Russell Reading, the head of Ag Progress Days, Mr. Jesse Darlington, Mr. Jeff Hyde, the head of Extension at Penn State, Mr. Craig Williams, the Vice President of the National County Agent Association, and many others.  Last, what would a Pennsylvania Agricultural event be without PA Preferred Products?  I enjoyed sampling the fried mushrooms, milkshakes, fresh cut French fries, and pulled pork sandwiches.  I am thankful for all of my experiences at Ag Progress Days and am so proud to be part of the Agricultural community in our State!
